  • What is ELEC?

    Established in 1973‚ ELEC monitors the campaign financing of all elections in the State. Whether the election is for Governor or Mayor‚ member of the Legislature or a City Council‚ candidates and campaign organizations are required to file with the Commission contribution and expenditure reports.

Treasurer Training

  • Training is mandatory for treasurers of gubernatorial and legislative candidates and for the State Political Party Committees and Legislative Leadership Committees.
  • Training is optional for treasurers for all other candidates and committees.
  • There are 3 available options for treasurer training:

Seminar Training  How can I get trained in person?
  • Seminar training is held at specifically scheduled times at ELEC’s office in Trenton or can be arranged at different locations throughout the State for groups.
  • Seminars are held on the topics of compliance and electronic filing for candidate compliance‚ continuing political committees and political party committees.
  • Attendance at a seminar that includes compliance training for candidates or committees will result in the individual receiving a Treasurer Training Certificate with a Treasurer Identification Number (TIN). (Electronic filing only seminars will not result in a Treasurer Training Identification Number or Certificate.)

Online Training  How can I get trained on-line?
  • Webinar training is held through GoToWebinar and can be registered and joined from any location on a person’s personal computer or smartphone.
  • Webinars are held on the topics of compliance and electronic filing for candidates‚ continuing political committees and political party committees.
  • Attendance at a webinar that includes compliance training for candidates or committees will result in the individual receiving a Treasurer Training Certificate with a Treasurer Identification Number (TIN). (Electronic filing only seminars will not result in a Treasurer Training Identification Number or Certificate.)

Taking The Test  How can I independently get certified?
  • Candidates and treasurers can become certified trained treasurers at any time by taking a Treasurer’s Test.
  • The test contains 50 multiple choice questions which must be completed in one session. Please utilize the manual and allot 1 hour to complete the test.
  • Once completed‚ you will receive a Treasurer Training Certificate with a Treasurer Identification Number (TIN) in the mail at the address provided when registering to take the test.
