Fill-in Forms Information
ELEC fill-in PDF forms use the features provided with Adobe Acrobat products. Currently, there is no computation, validation, or verification of the information you enter and you are responsible for entering all required information. The certification requires a handwritten signature on the form.
Software Requirements
To view, complete, and print ELEC fill-in PDF forms you'll need Adobe Reader software installed on your computer. The fill-in forms are enabled with “document rights” which will allow you to save what you have filled in on your PC. The latest version of Adobe Reader is required.
Get the latest version of Adobe Reader free. Once at the Adobe site, close all connections to the Commission’s website. Click on “Get Adobe Reader,” and follow the instructions. After upgrading to the latest version, return to the Commission’s website and you’re on your way to downloading and saving ELEC fill-in PDF forms.
Opening the Form
Your web browser may be configured with an Adobe Reader plug-in to automatically open the file within your browser's window upon download. To download the file directly to disk, right click on the form icon then select “Save Target As...” from the menu. Use Adobe Reader to open the file.
Fill-in forms with the ability to save locally will generate a dialog box when opened with Adobe Reader. If you are using the latest version of Adobe Reader, the dialog box will indicate that document rights have been applied to the PDF file and you can save the completed fill-in form.
Completing the Form
Use of the TAB key to move between fields is recommended. You may also use the mouse to navigate the fields. When positioning the cursor on a fill-in area or element, the cursor will change appearance. Place your cursor in the field you want to fill in, then left-click. The I-beam pointer allows you to type text. The hand pointer allows you to select a check box or radio button. Enter the appropriate data in each box or field. Some fields limit the maximum number of characters you can enter. The form is expandable. Click “Add …” to add another page or field. For additional help with fill-in forms, see the Adobe Reader's online help information.
When navigating a drop-down, radio button, or check box list, use the up and down arrow keys.
Use the Calendar from the drop down arrow in date fields.
The Adobe fill-in forms have an Auto Complete function. The auto-complete function stores the information you enter into form fields and uses these entries to suggest relevant choices as you type into a field. To turn this function off, go to the menu line and select Edit / Preferences / Forms. Find the last box on the right-hand side titled Auto-Complete. Using the drop-down arrow, select “Off.” Click the OK button to turn the Auto-Complete function off.
Do not use dollar signs ($) or commas (,) when entering numbers into a numeric field. A numeric field will automatically format for a number, percentage or dollar amount.
